HOW TERRAIN DNA WORKS

A measurement-based approach to matching hunting camouflage with real terrain

Terrain DNA is Camo Matrix's terrain-to-camouflage matching system. Instead of identifying a habitat and choosing camouflage from a predefined list, Terrain DNA measures the specific area of terrain you select and compares its visual characteristics directly with measured camouflage patterns.

Terrain DNA analyzes five visual families: color, tone, edges, texture and scale. Those measurements are compared with Camo Matrix Pattern DNA data to rank hunting camouflage patterns by visual similarity at the viewing range you selected.

Why can the recommendations change?

Terrain DNA analyzes the terrain you actually select. Moving the analysis area from bark to brush, rock, ground cover, light or shadow can substantially — and sometimes completely — change the closest matches.

Changing the selected viewing range can also change the recommendations because the visual relationship between terrain and camouflage changes with distance.

What does a Terrain DNA match mean?

Terrain DNA ranks visual similarity, not identical appearance. A highly ranked pattern has measured visual characteristics that align well with the selected terrain at that range.

It does not mean the camouflage is a pixel-for-pixel copy of that exact spot, and it is not a claim of a perfect 100% match or a guarantee of concealment.
